Starting Maths300 & Tasks is an excellent way to begin constructing a Working Mathematically curriculum.
- Maths300 lessons support teachers to model how a mathematician works.
- Each task is an invitation to students to apply the model for themselves.
- Skills are developed in context.
Additionally, through student contributions to the investigations, teachers become aware of directions for subsequent skill-based 'tool box' lessons. Driving skill development in this way makes such lessons more relevant, and therefore more acceptable, to students.
With Starting Maths300 & Tasks, primary and secondary teachers can build trial units which centre on learning to work like a mathematician in a chosen curriculum strand. The image shown is a straightforward reminder to juggle time allowed for each component.
