Leading Calculating Changes

The Involvement link has been prepared on the premise that individual schools engage an outside consultant to lead them into Calculating Changes.

However, systems or clusters of schools may find it more beneficial to train at least two key teachers in each school as professional development leaders for the project. Leadership teams then plan and execute local staff development, over time, with the aim of expanding the vision and practice of all staff.

Advantages of this approach are:

Key teachers from schools across a district or system begin with a full day program that includes: and is backed up with extensive web based resources to support change at a local level. Program support beyond the initial day is designed in consultation with the system's strategic planning.

However, as an alternative, several systems have had considerable success using the 6 day program Engineering 'aha' Moments K-8 , which is listed in the Maths on the Move workshop library. This program links the work of Calculating Changes, Mathematics Task Centre & Maths300 through the framework of all students learning to work like a mathematician in best practice classrooms.

Key teachers can also be provided with a video of classroom cameos, access to both the Leaders' and Members' sections of the site, and sets of preferred materials. Costs are negotiated to suit the needs of each district or system.
