This activity shows something of the flexibility of Poly Plug. The same activity can be used over and over again to investigate counting by different sized groups. This way of using an activity is called Threading. The colourful, tactile presentation helps children develop a visualisation of what is happening when they are counting in groups. Counting By FivesA red board with all its plugs removed makes an excellent counting frame. The yellow/blue plugs can be used to build up a sequence of counting by fives where the fives are shown with alternating colours. This also encourages counting by tens and counting by twenty-fives.  Partnering this activity with the calculator game Predict A Count adds to its pedagogical power.
